How to Set Up IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad
Step-by-step IPTV set-up for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad: pick a player from the App Store, add your login or playlist and fix common problems.
Apple devices do not allow sideloading in the way a Firestick does, so the route is simple: install a player from the App Store, then add your details. See also our Apple TV guide.
What you need
- An Apple TV (HD or 4K), iPhone or iPad running a current version of tvOS or iOS.
- Your login details: an Xtream Codes login or an M3U link (what is the difference?).
- A stable connection. Apple TV 4K works best on Ethernet.
Set-up on Apple TV
- Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search for an IPTV player (for example IPTV Smarters Player, GSE Smart IPTV or iPlayTV).
- Download and open it.
- Choose Add user or Login with Xtream Codes API. Enter the server URL, username and password.
- Alternatively choose M3U URL and paste the link. A phone can make typing easier if the app offers a QR or remote-entry option.
- Wait for the channels to load, then open the guide.
Set-up on iPhone and iPad
The steps are the same in the iOS version of the app. Many players sync settings through your account or let you re-enter the login on each device. Use picture in picture to keep a match on screen while you do something else.
Tips for a smoother stream
- Apple TV 4K supports 4K and HDR if the channel does. Check Settings, Video and Audio.
- Turn on Match Content (frame rate and dynamic range) for smooth sport.
- If the picture stutters, test with Ethernet and see how much speed you need.
- On iPhone, turn off Low Power Mode while streaming live sport.
Problems
- Login failed. Re-type the details and check the port number.
- No guide. Add or refresh the EPG: what an EPG is.
- App crashes. Update the app and tvOS, or try another player.
